Top 10 Most Famous Plumbers EVER! Part 2

Yesterday I wrote about the top 10 most famous plumbers ever, where we had boxers, mafia bosses, actors and video game stars. Now we have part 2 and the top five. Here it is:

5. Bob Hoskins

Before appearing in films such as Mona Lisa, Hook and Who framed Roger Rabbit, Bob worked as an apprentice plumber. He even returned to his roots by appearing as Mario in the Super Mario Bros film.

4. Thomas Crapper

You would think that with his name, he was the man responsible for developing the crapper, or to put it more politely, the toilet. In fact, the toilet was invented a few hundred years earlier by Sir John Harrington. Crapper did help popularise the toilet and worked as a plumber, owning the company Thomas Crapper & Co.

Soldiers during World War 1 saw the name T.Crapper on toilets at the time and coined the phrase for toilet called “crapper”, meaning his legacy stands today, despite dying 100 years ago.

3. Sir Michael Caine

Caine originally worked as a plumber’s apprentice after he left the army, where he had served in Korea. Deciding plumbing wasn’t for him, Caine has become a legend of the big screen, starring in films like Zulu, the Italian job, the new Batman films and he is one of two actors who have been nominated for an Academy Award in every decade since the 1960’s, along with Jack Nicholson.

2. Ozzy Osbourne

Ozzy worked as a plumber for a while after leaving school at 15, before focusing on eating bats, becoming the Prince of Darkness, fronting Black Sabbath and starring in MTV’s “The Osbournes”. Ozzy has sold 32 million albums in his career.

1. Mario

The most famous plumber ever and deserved winner of our list. Mario is arguably the most famous character in video game history, the face of Nintendo and his games have shifted 210 million copies worldwide. A short, pudgy Italian-America plumber, Mario, along with his brother Luigi, weren’t exactly the best advocates for plumbing but definitely the most popular.

There you have it – the top ten most famous plumbers ever. Any plumbers you think should make the list…?
