George Clarke to give Coronation Street a green makeover
Don’t worry, Norris hasn’t had a bad hotpot and gone green. But Coronation Street is set to benefit from a major green overhaul and see Deidre and Ken Barlow’s transformed into an energy efficient, ultra-green masterpiece.
DIY giants B+Q have announced they will be sponsoring “The Ideal Home Show Refit”, which will see Channel 4’s “Restoration Man” George Clarke renovate the Barlow’s home on Coronation Street and eco-vate it.
Using Forest Friendly timber floors for under floor heating, as well as a host of energy-saving techniques, the Barlow’s house will be the envy of all the street, as the greenest one so far. Take that Gail!
Over 250,000 visitors are expected to visit the Coronation Street set over the 17-day exhibition, with the aim to show visitors how easy it is to create a sustainable home.
George Clarke, who last month signed a deal with B+Q, along with Location, Location, Location’s Kirstie Allsopp, will also give “How to” talks for keen DIY’ers and homeowners, and give people advice on how to make your home greener.
George said in a statement that the “retrofit is designed to show that whether you’re in a Victorian terrace or a modern penthouse, greening up your home is affordable and possible. Many of the products on show can be bought from your local B&Q whose sustainable products are both easy to work with and make a real impact into cutting your home’s carbon emissions.”
