Heating engineer hits the jackpot with £1.4 million win at the races

A heating engineer from Devon has defied the odds and scooped £1.4 million at Exeter races yesterday.

Steve Whitely, 61, bet £2 on an accumulator at Exeter Racecourse and managed to pick all six winning horses in the Tote Jackpot.

With odds of 368,639-1, Mr Whitely won a total of £1.4 million on the horses, but instead of enjoying an early retirement, Steve plans on going back to work, and was back at his £500 a week job today.

Steve said that, “I won’t be quitting work just yet. I have to go in – I’ve arranged to do some work for people and that’s what I’ll do. I can’t let my customers down.”

That’s dedication for you. And all this for a man who only goes to the races twice a year. Good on you, Steve.
