Are Balfour Beatty set to crack America?
The construction giant has bought California-based contractor Howard S.Wright for £58 million, as part of the company’s US expansion strategy.
Balfour Beatty have been securing big contracts across California with its Barnhart Balfour Beatty division and recently acquired SpawMaxwell in Houston to increase its US portfolio. In fact, Balfour Beatty is now the third largest construction services provider in the US building market.
Balfour Beatty will now take over Howard S. Wright’s work on offices, healthcare and housing and their Chief Executive Ian Tyler said in a statement:
“HSW is an excellent geographic and strategic fit with our existing US capabilities, and the acquisition extends Balfour Beatty’s skill base and reach in Northern California and the US Pacific Northwest, a significant growth market that is emerging from the downturn.”
Balfour Beatty is the latest UK company to start winning more work abroad. This week on Train4TradeSkills News we’ve brought you the news that UK construction firms could win work in China and the news that Atkins are set to work with the US Army in the Middle East.
