Train4TradeSkills News: Manchester City’s new academy to create construction jobs
The Premiership side, who currently sit in second place behind fierce rivals Manchester United, have unveiled plans for a major new training centre and youth academy, opposite the club’s Etihad Stadium.
The new training centre will include a 7,000-seater stadium for Manchester City’s youth team and 15 pitches, with the aim to recruit and develop the club’s young players. Notable graduates from Man City’s academy include Micah Richards, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Joey Barton.
The young players may struggle to break into Man City’s first team and oust the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and David Silva, but at least the new training centre will create new jobs.
160 new construction jobs are set to be created, with the majority (70%) of jobs for local people. Manchester City have also announced they will locally source materials, equipment and services for the operation and construction of the site.
